Athletics

The Knights Athletics

Cary Christian School seeks to provide an extra-curricular activities program in order to supplement the academic program of our institution. We recognize that God has gifted students in a variety of ways, including abilities in athletics. Our Athletic Program provides an opportunity for these students to develop and use their God-given abilities.

We also believe that participation in extra-curricular activities, especially athletics, provides a good opportunity to encourage Christian students in their relationships with Jesus Christ. These activities also enhance the atmosphere of the Cary Christian School student body, providing students and parents with an opportunity to express positive school spirit. And finally, these extra-curricular activities provide an opportunity to express positive school spirit.

Athletic Program Objectives

Varsity (grades 9-12): The objective of the varsity level is to exhibit impeccable sportsmanship and excellence. Varsity athletics is highly competitive and advanced. At this level the athlete will be scrutinized more thoroughly in his character, ability, attitudes, and skills. He will play before many witnesses, including the Lord. The most qualified athletes will be allowed on the varsity team. Playing time will be at the discretion of the coach.

Middle School (grades 6-8): The objectives of the middle-school program are improvement through participation and the development of basic skills. Coaches will also teach basic rules and principles of the game. Middle-school athletics will allow each student the opportunity to participate and grow in sportsmanship and Christian character. Each athlete will be allowed to participate in every game contingent on their attitude and participation in practice. Coaches will talk with players and parents to explain reasons for non-participation in a game.

Team Size

A maximum of twenty athletes will be carried on the roster for volleyball and basketball. If more athletes turn out, coaches will make a cut. All cuts will be made by the varsity coach within the first week of practice. Prior to announcing the final rosters and cuts, the coach must meet with the Athletic Director. The coach and Athletic Director are to ensure that cuts made in compliance with these guidelines are in the best long-term interests of the program.
