Monday, February 23 – Spanish Night Presents “¡Por qué I luh you!” – This event features short plays, a guessing game, poetry, a short movie, and original student skits that are about Hispanic legends, myths and celebrations. Led by the Senior students, it will be a fun night for students and our CCS community.

Tuesday, February 24 – Church Leaders Lunch – Earlier this quarter, our students blessed local church leaders with letters of appreciation. Those letters were sent along with an invitation to attend our annual Church Leaders Lunch event. We are excited for local church leaders to tour our campus, meet some of our students and administration, and step into the classrooms to hear what our students are learning!   

Friday, February 27 – Yearbook Personalization Deadline – Don’t miss the deadline to order a personalized yearbook for an additional $10 over the base price of $62.

Friday, February 27 – Worship Night – Let’s join in worship together at our student-led worship night! All K-12 students and parents are invited to attend.

Lower School (K-5)

Important Dates

TOMORROW! – Friday, February 20 – Grade 2 Field Trip – Poe Center Health Education – Students will be attending workshops based on their current study of the skeletal system in science. As their love for God grows along with learning how God created their bones perfectly, their knowledge will increase even more as they learn about joints and muscles, and how they relate to God’s perfect design.   

Tuesday, February 24 – Grades 1 and 5 – Wright Brothers Presentation – Paul Carr visits our first and fifth graders to share the story of the Wright Brothers’ visit to Kitty Hawk in the early 1900s. He comes in costume as the character Wilbur Wright. Carr is a retired Air Force colonel and retired Delta International captain. He has had a life-long curiosity about the Wright Brothers and has been appearing as a Wilbur Wright storyteller since 2002.  

Wednesday, February 25 – Grade 4 – Renaissance Fair – Students will be celebrating a Renaissance Fair! Decked in costumes, students will dance, feast, make a leather-working craft, shoot bows and arrows, and attend a museum of Renaissance masterpiece recreations made by them.   

Friday, February 27 – Grade 3 – Despereaux Day/Soup Feast Third grade students will become rodents, princes, and princesses from the Kingdom of Dor for their annual Tale of Despereaux. They will feast on a variety of homemade soups while celebrating the wonderful, powerful, ridiculousness of love, hope, and forgiveness. After all, like Cook says, “There ain’t a body, be it mouse or man, that ain’t made better by a little soup.”

Wednesday, March 4 – Grade 5 – National Latin Exam – This standardized exam is administered to all students in Grade 5 during the school day. Latin teacher, Mr. Barber, will help students prepare for the exam during class time. No at-home studying or preparations are needed.

Thursday, March 5 – Grade 2 – Egyptian Day – Second grade students will enjoy growing in their knowledge of Egypt by experiencing a special “Egyptian Day.” They will learn about mummification, hieroglyphics, and much more. These inquisitive students will also dress up as Egyptians, which makes this event even more special.

Friday, March 6 – Grade 1 – North Carolina Day – First graders are learning about the border states, the three different regions, and the many state symbols of North Carolina. They will finish their unit by enjoying a fun day full of activities that celebrate our great state.

TOMORROW! – Friday, February 20 – Grade 8 – Science Fair – Students will showcase their innovative experiments and projects. Parents of 8th grade students are encouraged to come explore and learn from a variety of fascinating experiments. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see science in action and celebrate the hard work of our young scientists!

SAVE THE DATE! – Saturday, April 18 (3:00-4:30 p.m.) – Eighth Grade Tea – This is a wonderful opportunity for our young ladies and gentlemen to prepare for the social events they will enjoy in Rhetoric School. Please plan for your student to attend! While registration will open after Spring Break, planning is underway, and we are looking for parents in grades 7 and 8 to assist with volunteer roles the day of the event as well as eighth grade parents to serve on the planning committee. If you would like to volunteer in either of these capacities, email Ellen Wentz. A Signup Genius will be sent out after the two-week break for those wishing to prepare food or loan serving pieces. Friday, April 24 – No School for Grades 6-12 – Lower School is hosting Grandparents Day on this day, so there will be no classes for Upper School students.

Friday, February 27 – Career Connections Day –The panel for seniors is composed of alumni so that seniors can ask meaningful questions about college, career, and life on campus and after CCS. Grades 9, 10, 11 panels are composed of parents, and alumni are sprinkled in. We hope that students will appreciate learning about varied career options and paths.
