The Knights Podcast – Seminar and Cultivating the Intellectual Virtues

I am so excited to welcome our Seminar team to the Podcast. Kate Fredrikson, Patrick Halbrook, Michelle Lasch, and Tom McMahon all discuss how they are seeking to develop the intellectual virtues in our Rhetoric School students through the Seminar Program. Check out how they are engaging with their students in the hopes that they will develop the habits of the mind in a way that develops the habits of the soul. Our prayer is that the Spirit would use this time in our students lives to draw them to their Creator and Savior. Click here to listen.

Click here to access the Intellectual Virtues poster referenced in the Podcast. Michelle Lasch created this poster with content from The Excellent Mind by Nathan King and Deep in Thought by Jason Baehr.

Friday, September 16 – Lower School Convocation – For the month of September, we are focusing on the biblical character trait of self-control.  Self-control is a worthy goal, commended by God.  Self-control involves thinking before speaking or acting.  It requires not speaking or acting out of anger or frustration.  We will be learning the fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23, and using Proverbs 29:11 to remind us, “A fool shows his anger.  A wise man keeps himself under control.”

SSP Donations – As our Seniors prepare for the Senior Service Practicum, they are looking for new or gently used donations.  The seniors will travel to Newport, Tennessee to help partner with ministries to serve the local community. Donations will be used to benefit the people they will be serving. Between now and Fall Break, please drop off donations on Fridays during carpool. There will be bins at the K-2 and 3-5 Carpool drop-off and pick-up areas, as well as at the security desk in the front lobby. If you have a lot to donate, please park and bring your donations inside. Thank you so much for supporting our Seniors as they seek to minister to the Newport community. We are looking for:

    • Blankets
    • Jackets
    • Gloves
    • Scarves
    • Hats
    • Warm Socks
    • Winter Boots

Golf Classic Registration – Registration is open for this year’s 22nd Annual CCS Golf Classic on Monday, October 24!  Click HERE.  Each year, friends of CCS put on their spikes for a fun day on the links to support our amazing school!  You can register a foursome or individually.  The day will tee-off with breakfast from Chick-fil-A and then players will head to the courses to swing their way to victory.  After a great day of fun and fellowship, players will check the results and wait expectantly to hear their name called as the winner of fabulous raffle prizes!  Would you like to sponsor our golf tournament?  Click HERE.  For questions, please contact Ellen Wentz at ewentz@carychristianschool.org.

Apply Now – 2023-2024 Applications Open – God has been so kind to CCS with bringing us 840 wonderful students, record enrollment for our school’s history. You may think it’s too early to think about enrolling children for next August, but we encourage you to apply now!  There are two ways to access the application; go to your Parent Portal on Veracross and there is a tab on the left “Apply to CCS” or go to the CCS website where you will see the “Apply Now” button on the home page.

    •  As we look at this current school year, nine of our grades have waiting pools.  Many of the students placed in waiting pools for this year will want to be placed in the pool for next year.
    • We anticipate another year with many more applicants than we have seats for children.
    • Approximately 50% of our rising Kindergarteners come from current CCS families.  We already have over 20 Kindergarten applications submitted for next year.  We would hate to see a current CCS family placed in the waiting pool because they didn’t get their application in early.
    • Invite friends and family to our Open House on Thursday, November 3, from 6:00-8:00 P.M.!

Why do you need to hear this now?  As you think about or talk with friends or family members about when you, or they, should apply for their children, we ask that you encourage all to apply early.

Bumper Crop Food Drive – Donation collection will begin this Monday, September 12, and the whole school is encouraged to participate! We’re collecting cans and non-perishables for the Dorcas food pantry and any donations are appreciated! Upper school collection bins will be in the commons area starting Monday, and we’ll be transporting all donations on Thursday, September 22. Lower school donations will be collected on September 22 as well, at carpool drop off and pick-up. Thank you for supporting this ministry!
