Do you remember why you chose CCS?
Most parents chose us because it’s safe. To be clear, I am truly thankful that you feel safe at CCS. However, look at this picture of Mrs. Gardner recognizing students for completing a reading level. This is a special place, and we all have the privilege of being here at a special time. Watch this week’s Reel Life video. It reveals more than mere safety.
These students have mastered a very hard skill. They have completed their leveled readers. They learned how to blend phonograms into a word and then piece individual words together to make a sentence. Finally, they discovered that words have power to convey meaning. And now comes the much-anticipated big day… they get their first real chapter book to read independently! Our students delight in reading Frog and Toad, a story about the friendship between a fun-loving yet somewhat irresponsible frog and a serious-minded and slightly uptight toad.
This milestone reminds us why we love our school: Strong relationships and meaningful moments.
It focuses our attention on the purpose of school:
- We want our children to know they are loved.
- We want them to be prepared for what’s next.
- We want them to be sturdy enough to navigate the path.
As we turn toward the end of the year, think about those pictures. Soon seniors will present their thesis, the graduation stage will begin to be erected, and Mrs. Clarkson will pass out The Old Man and the Sea, their last independent reader.
There is a long path between Frog and Toad and The Old Man and the Sea and the busyness of life can lead us to forget why we love this place and why we come to school in the first place. This remembrance is about more than sentimentality. It helps us to finish well. Remembering gives us the proper motivation and the proper focus.
It also helps us out. We need 15 more students in kindergarten. While it’s not unusual for us to have 15 spots at the end of March, I would like your help filling those seats. Simply put: your friends are more likely to love what we offer and to support our mission. Our parents give our school strength. So, point like-minded parents toward our website and to a tour.
