Sacramental Moments

Sacramental Moments – As we approach Thanksgiving and Christmas we want to take a step back as a community to celebrate how we see Christ working in the lives of our students. Our goal is that our students consistently encounter Christ in our classes through what we are calling Sacramental Moments. We are going to spend the next several weeks celebrating moments in the classroom when the barriers between the physical and the spiritual have broken down – which is exactly what we celebrate during the Christmas season with the coming of Christ.

Seminar

CCS’s Seminar class is an opportunity for high school students to take time out of their day to read and converse about the great ideas that have shaped our world. Ms. Fredrikson, Mrs. Lasch, Mr. Halbrook, and Mr. McMahon teach the classes, but our real instructors are Solomon, Plato, Augustine, John Locke, Thomas Jefferson, C. S. Lewis, and other influential writers who spent their lives seeking answers to big questions of enduring relevance. In each class we listen carefully to their ideas, evaluate them from a Biblical worldview,  and seek to come away with a better understanding of the world God made and how to live in it.

9th Grade – Plato’s Crito:

    • When, if ever, can we justly break the law?
    • What about the law of our conscience?

10th Grade – Boethius’ Consolation of Philosophy:

    • Why is seeking happiness in earthly goods futile at best and harmful at worst?

11th Grade – John Milton’s Areopagitica:

    • Is freedom of speech valuable or dangerous?

12th Grade – Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers:

    • To what in human nature do checks and balances appeal, and what do they channel?

NEW Wrestling Coach! – Coach Chris Sullivan is a CCS father of three: Charlotte (5th), Amelia (4th), and Davis (K). Coach Chris is a partner in the Chiropractic Partners location in Cary and also works with the NC State Wolfpack Sports Medicine department. Coach Sullivan grew up in the suburbs of Des Moines, Iowa. He started wrestling in 8th grade. (It’s never too late to start.) He was a four-year varsity letter winner and placed at the state championships his senior year. Coach Sullivan wrestled for a year at Iowa State University before injury ended his career. Coach Chris says, “The hardest day of my life was my last day on the mat competitively.” Coach Chris coached in Indiana and Pennsylvania in elementary and junior high school programs. He also coached High School wrestling at Richland High School in Pennsylvania. He has trained with some great coaches including Tom and Terry Brands, Pat Pecora, Cael Sanderson and Dan Gable. Currently, Coach Sullivan has been excited to work with Mike Machiavelli, Tommy Gant, and Coach “P” at N.C. State. When asked what wrestling means to him? Coach Sullivan responded, “Wrestling has been the greatest sport to me and I view this opportunity as a way to give back to the sport and develop our guys into the best wrestlers they can be and build a program that exemplifies the best qualities of this amazing sport. I am excited for the opportunity to coach at CCS and look forward to getting to know all the wrestlers and growing individually and as a team.”

Winter Team Wear – We will be offering garments for sale with sport-specific logos for the winter sports season. These will be done by vendors we have used in the past as opposed to the one we used for fall sports. Go to the spirit store link Cary Christian School (promoplace.com). Ordering will be open through November 14. Orders will be placed on the 15th and expected to arrive on December 9. Items in this offering currently have deep stock, so we should not have many supply chain issues.

Our prayer for our school is that the Lord would use Cary Christian to call each of our students to be rooted and grounded in love . . . filled with all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:17-19).
