 Congratulations to Sruti Narisetti and William Rhoades on winning the prestigious 2023 National Merit Scholarship! They are two of only 2,500 high school seniors in the United States to be named National Merit Scholars by the NMSC. Chosen from a talent pool of 15,000 outstanding Finalists, winners are judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Thursday, May 11 – Thesis Encore Night – You are invited to join us at 7:00 P.M. in the Theater as we hear from four of our top seniors in a special evening presentation. These students will speak on a variety of relevant and challenging biblical and cultural subjects. Each presentation will last 5-10 minutes, followed by a 10-15 minute period of dialogue answering questions from the audience. Click here to learn more!

Friday, May 12 – Lower School Convocation – For the month of May, we are focusing on the biblical character trait of perseverance. We desire to do good work for God’s glory. Doing hard things grows us in faith and godliness. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).  

  

Saturday, May 13 – Concert on the Lawn: An Evening on Broadway – Cary Christian School Choral & Instrumental Arts proudly present an exciting evening of song and performance featuring a selection of timeless Broadway hits! This evening will showcase the talent and hard work of our Upper School Choral and Band students. From the golden age of musical theater to today’s modern shows, this evening of music will bring to life the romance and drama of songs from popular shows and beloved musicals. Lawn chairs, blankets, and picnics are welcome at this outdoor event! So, join us on the lawn to get swept away in the grandeur of Broadway. It’s sure to be an evening to remember!

Tuesday, May 23 – Lower School Field Day – Let’s get ready for Field Day on Tuesday, May 23! Consider sending your child with a hat to wear and sunscreen applied. Please send a labeled water bottle and disposable snack and lunch on this day. We will use normal carpool drop off in the morning and early release at 12:15 in the afternoon. 

    • Volunteer: We appreciate all who have signed up already to help your class for our Field Day Events. If you have not already signed up and would be willing to help, we could still use volunteers to help run several of the events, help setup, time students, and clean up the event at the end. Summer Reading – Join us as we journey together through the pages of great books this summer! The books will be sent home with the students during the last week of school to be read over the summer individually or as a family. There will not be a graded assessment upon return in the fall, but make sure you complete the reading, so that you will be able to participate in the related book activities and discussions that will kick off our fall semester.

Student Medication Pick-Up – Any parent who has prescription medications for their child(ren) stored at CCS, must come BEFORE the last day of school to take medication home. Please notify the Health Office to schedule a time for pickup (919-303-2560, ext. 212). NO medication of any type will be stored at CCS over the summer.  

  

Save the Date – Re-Threads – Re-Threads Consignment Sale will be held on Thursday, June 8, from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. at the Peace Church Fellowship Hall. Now is a great time to start gathering uniform pieces that kids have outgrown. The attached flyer will give you all the details on buying and selling. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer for Re-Threads, please contact Ellen Wentz at ewentz@carychristianschool.org or 919-931-3345.  Note: Volunteers will have the opportunity to shop the sale before the general public!

Monday, May 15, & Tuesday, May 16 – Set-Up for Class of 2023 Senior Memories Tables – Seniors and/or Senior Parents are asked to set up a Senior Memories display on either Monday or Tuesday of graduation week during the timeslots below. Tuesday, May 16 – Wednesday, May 17 – Senior Final Exams – 12th grade students will sit for their final exams May 16-17. Students were provided the CCS Senior Final Exam Exemption Policy by their teachers and must receive approval for an exemption by Dead Day 1 on Friday, May 12. No hot lunch ordering is available these days for seniors. Please make transportation arrangements as needed according to the following schedule. Note: Immediately following Wednesday’s last Exam, Seniors are required to attend Graduation Rehearsal from 12:15-1:15 on the Main Athletic Field.

Thursday, May 18 – Senior Assembly – The Class of 2023 Senior families and their guests are cordially invited to attend this final and special end-of-year awards assembly! No tickets required. Senior Families will have reserved seating for 6 people on the floor, with overflow seating “first come, first served” in the bleachers. Senior Memories displays will be able for viewing before and after Senior Assembly. Seniors will be dismissed with their families at the conclusion of the Assembly, and we encourage senior families to enjoy lunch with family and friends.    

    • When: 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Doors open at 9:30 A.M.  
    • Where: CCS Gym 
    • Parking: Seniors will park on campus and follow the graduation day schedule. Staff, Faculty, and all other student drivers will park at Peace Presbyterian Church (1777 W. Chatham St.). Shuttles will run before school starting at 7:00 A.M. running continuously until school starts, limited shuttles during lunch (bring your own lunch), and after school from 2:30-4:00 P.M.

Rhetoric School Job Opportunity – Afterschool Program for 2023-2024 School Year – If you will be 16 years or older in August, you are interested in being a role model for younger CCS students, and you are looking to earn money in the process, please begin the application process by emailing Mrs. Hillsgrove to let her know of your interest. Interviews will be held the last two weeks of school.

Senior Final Transcripts – Final Transcripts for Seniors will be sent in early June to the school where the student is matriculating as indicated in Scoir. Ms. McGinnis will also mail a copy to each Senior to keep in his/her records. 

 

AP Scores – AP Scores will be available directly from College Board in mid-July. Seniors, if you want your AP Score sent to your college, you must go onto College Board to request their free score and send by June 20. Underclassmen, it is recommended that you wait until Senior year to send your scores to a college.
